FORT WALTON BEACH – A man was arrested on a variety of charges after an incident involving his girlfriend and her daughter, lawmen say.
On July 8 a Fort Walton Beach woman told Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies that her boyfriend, 42-year-old Oscar Montiel Avala, also of Fort Walton Beach, pushed her down on the bed and held her there. She escaped and fled to the road with her 10-year-old daughter to get help.
She said Avala grabbed her daughter by the arm, picked her up and carried her back into the yard.
When deputies searched Avala they found marijuana.
He was charged with battery, child cruelty and marijuana possession.
His plea date is July 30.
