PACE — Laurie Cooey’s family knows they were given extra years with her because of strangers.
The 37-year-old died having been the recipient of four kidney transplants and now her family is finding a way to say thank you.
“We know that if Laurie were still with us she would encourage people to take action and become organ donors,” said Janis Merritt, Cooey’s mother. “By becoming an organ donor you are giving a gift that no amount of money can replace — the gift of life.”
Cooey’s family is hosting a LOVE, LIVE, GIVE 5K walk April 13 for organ donors or those wishing to become organ donors. Tables will be set up to sign up individuals to become donors.
Registration will begin at 8:20 a.m. April 13 and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. at S.S. Dixon Intermediate on Education Drive.
