SHALIMAR — A short in an electrical outlet destroyed the kitchen of a home Tuesday evening, according to Robert Hall, battalion chief for the Ocean City-Wright Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 19 Sixth St. in Shalimar about 5:45 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they could see flames shooting from the kitchen. They were able to put out the blaze within a few minutes, but it destroyed the kitchen and caused significant smoke damage throughout the house, Hall said.
A person in the home was able to escape, and no injuries were reported.
Hall estimated the damage at $35,000.
The resident will not be able to occupy the home until it is repaired. He planned to stay with friends and family, Hall said.
