LETTER: Save the program

I’m disgusted with our commissioners for letting a bunch of whiners, who hadn’t tried the test recycling program, sway their opinion. I will not vote for any of the commissioners again if they are too ignorant to see our desperate need to recycle and lessen our expensive landfill.
I live in the test area and I loved it. I had to take the two cans out only once a week and sometimes not for two or three, because they weren’t full. I loved having only one day to remember for pickup rather than three. My recycling usually equaled my garbage.
Those who complained about receiving “half the service” still had all their garbage picked up.
I’m a senior female and had no trouble rolling the cans out to the street, but smaller ones were available for those who couldn’t manage. For the spouters who complained about the smell — the garbage had the same smell before. Three days doesn’t make much difference. I had stinky stuff but my cans never smelled until I opened the lid, so I closed it fast.
Waste Management’s proposed $1.48 fee reduction did seem small. Two dollars would have been more reasonable. But I would go along with anything to keep the program. We need it!
Waste Management and commissioners: Renegotiate the proposal until you find a way to save the program. Those little boxes aren’t big enough to hold my recyclables, and they get wet in the rain. I want to keep my “yellow lid.”
