NICEVILLE - A 22-year-old man has been arrested for trying to rob the Thumbs Up convenience store, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Zachariah Dalton Howard of Niceville entered the store at 4200 Range Road about 10 p.m. Dec. 22 and told the clerk he had a gun, although he didn’t show it, according to deputies. Howard left after the clerk showed him the empty cash register.
He was arrested Saturday. He told deputies he didn’t plan to rob the store, but the idea came to him as he walked to it, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
After the robbery attempt, he went to Winn-Dixie and called his mother for a ride, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He said he didn’t have any weapons.
He was charged with robbery without a weapon or firearm and taken to the Okaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
