We need to allow our God-given Constitution and amendments to work. We have the right to bear arms and we should be doing it.
What we have right now with our “gun-free schools” is to say to all the crazies and loonies out there that they are safe to be savages. Fortunately, most are cowards and lazy. They would pick on the most vulnerable in our society. So where else would they go? We might as well put up a huge neon sign in front of each and every school telling the crazies they can do their evil work here, as they’ll be safe. Duh! What else can they conclude?
Our shopping malls, hospitals, public buildings and, yes, even most homes have firearms for protection. Why would we not allow, even encourage, our teachers to have the opportunity to be armed?
I would rather my child or grandchildren go where there was even a possibility that a teacher or administrator would be trained and armed. Most sane people would agree.
In Montana, when the anti-gun lobby was pushing to ban guns within 1,000 feet of schools, the governor said his state was not going to participate. Hunter safety courses were held at the schools. Notice that no crazies came there.
Congress allowed airline pilots to be armed, which, along with extra security at airports, has reduced crimes in our commercial aircraft.
Removing some military-style firearms makes as much sense as demanding that only small spoons be manufactured in order to keep people from getting fat.
