FREEPORT - A 20-year-old Freeport man is accused of breaking into a neighbor's house and stealing toilet paper.

In late November a Walton County Sheriff's deputy was summoned to a Polk Street residence, where a woman told him she'd been staying at a family member's house for the holidays. When she returned to her home, she discovered the lock had been broken off the back door and a 12-pack of toilet paper stolen.

She said she saw a shadow of an unknown person leave her house through the back door and heard it close. She found footprints outside that matched the shoes of her next door neighbor, Steven Alexander Pettit.

Pettit later admitted to the deputy he broke the lock off the door and went inside the woman's home.

He was charged with criminal mischief, burglary to an unoccupied structure, and petit larceny.
