The Fort Walton Beach football program will turn its attention from the gridiron to the links to ramp up its fundraising efforts.
And to draw in sponsors and teams it is turning to a familiar face: Danny Wuerffel.
Wuerffel, who led the Vikings to its only state championship in 1991 and later helped the Florida Gators to a national title in 1996 during a Heisman Trophy campaign, will lend his name and an appearance to The Danny Cup.
The showcase, which is sponsored by Southern Resorts in Destin and is planned to become an annual tournament that will lend its proceeds to the FWB Touchdown Club, is a four-person scramble that will take place June 22 at Destin’s Emerald Bay Country Club.
Preceded by a lunch, the shotgun start will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will conclude with a dinner and awards ceremony. Team fees are $400, while sponsorship of holes runs $100 per.
