MARY ESTHER — All lanes of U.S. Highway 98 near Hurlburt Field's main gate are now reopened after being closed fo 5 hours while emergency responders work the scene of a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles.

Emergency responders are utilizing the eastbound lanes for both directions of traffic right now, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cody Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's website.
Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office dispatch confirmed that at least one person was killed in the crash. One of the vehicles is reported to be a semi-truck, dispatch said.
The Sheriff's Office has asked drivers to avoid the area, if possible.
Hurlburt traffic is being rerouted from the front gate to McMillan Street through base housing to exit the base, according to base officials.
The base's Visitor Control Center is not issuing passes due to the accident. Anyone who already has a visitor's pass can use them at the back gate.
FHP is investigating the crash.
