CRESTVIEW – When a police officer went to a shoplifting suspect’s house to ask a few questions about some purloined “alcoholic beverages,” the man came out, put his hands behind his back without being asked, and said, “Just take me to jail.”

On May 16 a convenience store manager told Crestview Police she surveillance video of two men taking alcoholic beverages and putting them in their pockets. This happened both May 16 and the day before.

The officer recognized the two from previous encounters. He went to one man’s residence.

“Upon arrival, (name redacted) exited the residence and placed his hands behind his back without being asked to,” the officer wrote. “(He) was placed in handcuffs and escorted to my patrol vehicle. (He) was wearing the same white hat and sleeveless shirt as in the video from the business. (He) was advised of his Miranda Rights and he refused to answer any questions advising ‘Just take me to jail.’ ”

He was charged with retail theft. His court date is June 11.
