LETTER: Keep downsizing

The oppressive government of King George sparked the revolution that created our nation. The federal bureaucracy in D.C. must relearn that historical lesson.
Big Government limits individual freedom and responsibility, which made America the greatest nation on Earth.
Big Government is unaffordable. Every dollar it spends is one less dollar that individuals can spend the way they want.
Big Government doesn’t work: Reference the giant pyramid scheme of Social Security or the inefficiency of Medicare and Medicaid.
Our debt is $16.7 trillion, more than 103 percent of our gross domestic product, and will exceed $26 trillion by 2023. The unfunded liability of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid runs between $79 trillion and $127 trillion.
Big Government’s irresponsible spending of Other People’s Money breeds corruption (see the IRS, AP and Benghazi scandals).
Big Government stifles economic growth. TARP and the bailout have smothered recovery from the Great Recession.
The fight over the size of government is a vital battle. Big Government leaves us poorer and less efficient and fails to solve our problems. Most significantly, Big Government denies the unique value and initiative of every individual.
In 2014 we must continue the downsizing we started in 2010. Mandate congressional oversight. Defund Obamacare! Let Florida and Okaloosa County set the example.
“That government is best which governs least.”

— STEVEN CZONSTKA
Okaloosa County GOP State Committeeman
