FORT WALTON BEACH – A man admitted to police he may have sold a stolen phone, but he insisted he wasn’t the person who stole it.
But he couldn’t explain how he got the phone, and further said he couldn’t remember much because over the given time period he was under the influence of narcotics.
The case began in late January when a man reported his car was broken into and $40 and an iPhone were taken.
Over the ensuing months Fort Walton Beach Police found the phone and questioned the owner. She said she purchased it from 25-year-old Corey Landan McComas, no address given. She positively identified him from a photo lineup.
McComas told officers he doesn’t remember selling the phone because he was constantly under the influence of narcotics, but he insisted he didn’t steal the phone. He couldn’t provide officers with a logical explanation as to how he got the phone.
He was charged with dealing in stolen property and has a June 11 court date.
