CRESTVIEW – When two Crestview Police officers intercepted a man they thought might be driving with a suspended license, they also found evidence he’d shoplifted items from a local dollar store.
On May 8 they spotted 41-year-old Stephen Ray McDonald of Crestview driving a Mercury SUV. One of the officers had had previous encounters with McDonald and believed he was driving with a suspended driver’s license, so they waited as McDonald went into the Dollar Tree store on Ferdon Boulevard. When he came out they handcuffed him after a records check indicated his license was indeed suspended.
When they searched McDonald they found a receipt for toilet paper and clear Luster Gems. But they also found a pair of Over the Ear earphones, Sunbeam D-sized batteries, and a Window Alert item.
The manager confirmed the merchandise belonged to the store and McDonald hadn’t paid for them.
He was charged with driving with a suspended license –habitual offender, and retail theft. His court date is June 25.
