Man says he took converter box because he wanted to 'watch TV'

NICEVILLE – A man was caught leaving the Garden Center at Walmart with a TV converter box in his pants, according to an arrest report.

The attempted theft occurred May 11, Niceville Police say. The DeFuniak Springs man entered the store and went to the Electronics Department, where he picked out an RCA converter box. He then went to the Clothing Department where he hid the box in his waistband. He left the store through the Garden Center without paying for the box, the report indicated.

The man later said he took the box so he could “watch TV.”

He was charged with retail theft and has a May 28 court date.
