Representatives from Corvias Military Living and Hurlburt Field residents discussed the privation of on-base housing during a town hall meeting at King Auditorium on Hurlburt Field, May 6.
The meeting was held to provide information and give residents the opportunity to ask any questions about the upcoming changes on Corvias Military Living in the near future.
Corvias Military Living is part of the Residential Communities Initiative program. Under the program, Corvias is slated to build, renovate, maintain and manage community base-housing.
“Privatization is expected to take effect sometime in August or September, “said Lt. Col. David Novy, the commander of 1st Special Operations Civil Engineering Squadron.
Residents posed several questions regarding the cost of utilities for the new homes.
“We will take a group of homes that are all alike and we will do an average of utility cost for those homes and that will create the baseline,” said Stan Morehead, the project manager for Corvias Military Living’s Hurlburt Field project.
Construction on new housing already began with the first available house ready in late 2014. In total, 404 new units will be constructed on Hurlburt and residents in the path of demolition will take priorityto be moved into the new homes.
The newly built homes will be metered and residents will be responsible for usage going over the average consumption of energy services, but will receive credit for being energy conscious. All this is part of the Department of Defense’s initiative to be more energy efficient.
Lawn care and maintenance services will also be provided by the company. Residents can have the company care for their lawns or choose to not-receive lawn care if they would like to maintain their own.
“The day we take over, we [will maintain] the yards and [provide] pest control,” said Morehead.
The final new home is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
