NICEVILLE – A man needed – or wanted – a new pair of shoes and sunglasses. Unfortunately, he didn’t want to pay for them, according to an arrest report.

On April 22 a 30-year-old DeFuniak Springs man was spotted trying on a pair of sunglasses at the front of the store. An assets protection employee told a Niceville Police officer he saw the man remove the tag while he was in the menswear department and put the sunglasses on his head.

He then saw the man take off his shoes put on a brand new pair.

The man left the store without paying for the sunglasses and shoes. He was intercepted by a police officer and escorted back to the assets protection office, where he was told video surveillance confirmed the thefts. The man admitted to stealing the items and said he was “being stupid,” according to the report.

Total value of the items was $28.

He was charged with retail theft. His court date is May 14.
