First, I want to commend the writer of “Flag etiquette” (letter, April 24) for addressing the subject.
I also attended the Doolittle Raiders luncheon and was very disturbed when I saw how two flags had been mutilated and assembled end-to-end and displayed on the back wall.
I spoke to the master of ceremonies, and was told that the Chamber of Commerce was told that the so-called flag had a historical background and had been flown during either World War II or one of our other wars.
If that was true, whoever flew the flag didn’t know much about flag etiquette and mutilated our beautiful flag.
I recommend that the monstrosity be removed and replaced with one large American flag.
