MOSSY HEAD — Two Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were damaged in a crash Monday morning.

The 2010 Ford Explorer and 2008 Ford Explorer were parked on the inside lane of eastbound Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 64 with their lights activated when they were struck from behind, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The deputies had stopped there in the roadway to protect emergency personnel responding to another crash, according to the FHP.

The driver of the other vehicle, Merlene B. Black, 76, of Milton, was not injured when her Hyundai sedan struck the 2010 Explorer at about 4:50 a.m., the release states.

The impact forced the SUV into the back of the second Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

No one was standing near the vehicles at the time of the crash.

In the original crash, Geordany Leon, 34, of Cutler Bay, Fla., was driving a 2001 Freight semi-truck eastbound on Interstate 10 at 4:45 a.m. when he ran off the roadway.

Leon’s vehicle went into the median near Mile Marker 64 and hit a pine tree, causing the trailer to overturn onto its left side.

Leon was not injured.

The inside, eastbound lane was closed for several hours to off-load and upright the trailer.

The wreck caused an estimated $15,000 in damages. Leon was charged with careless driving.

The second wreck caused about $15,000 in damages to Black’s vehicle, $20,000 in damages to the 2010 Ford and $15,000 to the 2008 Ford, according to the FHP.

Black was cited for careless driving.
