NICEVILLE – Police are looking into an odd situation where somebody appeared to be trying to recover a house trailer for scrap metal.

A man who lives in the Swift Creek subdivision called Niceville Police on April 9 and told them he encountered a woman at the back of his property who was trying to move a log over the creek. He asked if he could help her and she dropped the log and moved away. Later, he and his wife found a blue bucket filled with personal belongings and a note that said “Sarah” would return to pick it up. Later, one of his neighbors called to say a woman was sitting behind his house, drinking a beer. He confronted her and she left.

Later, the man and his neighbor began exploring the woods and found a pickup truck parked in a remote area. It appeared a makeshift road had been cut from the woods. An officer said it appeared somebody was trying to recover parts of an abandoned house trailer for scrap. The investigation is continuing.

Meanwhile, a man called police on April 3 to report somebody had kicked in his back door. He said he found the door open and pieces of the jam on the floor. The door leads to a laundry room and garage, but not the house. Nothing was missing. Police prepared a report the man could present to his landlord to get the door fixed.

Finally, an officer noted somebody defaced a stop sign on Adams Street. Below the word “stop” somebody had spraypainted, “Obama.”
