NICEVILLE – Police arrested a man they say tried to hide his marijuana by knocking it off a log.
Niceville Police were summoned to a John Sims Parkway location behind Badcock Furniture on March 30 to check into somebody drinking and hanging out at the property. There, an officer found 19-year-old Maurice Anthony Nitzke drinking a beer and playing fetch with a dog. The officer yelled to Nitzke to secure the dog; Nitzke walked to the edge of nearby woods and hid his beer, the officer wrote in the arrest report. He also laid his shirt across a tree trunk.
Meanwhile, a second man came out of the woods and restrained the dog.
Nitzke retrieved the beer and handed it to the officer. The officer spotted what appeared to be marijuana on the tree trunk and on the shirt. Nitzke admitted the marijuana was his and he planned to “roll a blunt and smoke it,” according to the report.
Behind the log, the officer found a piece of cellophane with marijuana residue inside. Nitzke admitted he kept marijuana in the cellophane and “messed it all up” because he didn’t want to get in trouble.
The substance tested positive for marijuana.
Nitzke was charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of liquor by somebody under the age of 21, and tampering with evidence.
He will report to court on May 14.
