A Gainesville man faces drug charges after an officer found drugs on him during a traffic stop Friday morning, according to the Niceville Police Department.
The officer pulled over 39-year-old Joseph Curtis Fairley at a gas station on East John Sims Parkway for a broken side brake light. The officer received information that Fairley had a suspended license and was a habitual traffic offender, so the officer asked Fairley to step out of the vehicle, according to his arrest report.
Fairley started reaching for his front right shorts pocket with his right hand as the officer cuffed his left hand, police reported. During an ensuing struggle, Fairley was able to drop something in a trash can before the officer was able to cuff his right hand.
The officer found a bottle containing seven 30-milligram Oxycodone pills. Fairley did not have a prescription for pills, according to the arrest report. An envelope containing three small clear plastic baggies of cocaine weighing a total of 1 gram also was discovered.
Fairley was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked (habitual), possession of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine and resisting arrest with violence.
He was taken to Okaloosa County Jail. No bond had been set as of later Friday.
