FORT WALTON BEACH – A homeless man was arrested for helping himself to beer from the tiki bar at a local lounge, lawmen say.

On March 24 Fort Walton Beach Police received a call from KC’s Bar on Miracle Strip Parkway. Video surveillance footage showed an older white male with a beard enter the outdoor tiki bar. He opened the cooler and took several six packs of bottled beer. He then placed them into a garbage bag but when he picked them up, the bag was too heavy. He removed two six-packs of Miller Lite and left.

Officers were able to identify the man as 60-year-old Jerry Michael Kinney, at large.

Later that day they found Kinney riding his bike at the corner of Ferry Road and Hollywood Boulevard. He was detained. Officers asked if he’d been to KC’s that morning and he said no. Officers also noticed his beard was missing and he had fresh cuts over his face from shaving, as if he’d done so in a hurry. He also had cut hair on his shirt, and he’d missed several spots on his face.

Officers told him they had strong evidence he’d been to KC’s, then asked about stealing the beer. He admitted taking it and said he drank it, then threw away the bottles.

He was charged with burglary to a structure and theft. His court date is May 14.
