CORE NUTRITION
With so many sport- and health-oriented businesses finding their way to historic downtown Fort Walton Beach, it seemed a natural location for Alec St. Cyr and Leslie Roark to open Core Nutrition.
“It’s a great little spot,” St. Cyr said of the area for the shop, which opened in March.
Core Nutrition specializes in healthy smoothies that come in 46 flavors including cinnamon roll, butter pecan, strawberry cheesecake and even wedding cake. The healthy drinks sound more like dessert, but St. Cyr said that they can be used as a single-meal replacement.
“They’re actually a healthy meal,” he said, noting that the smoothies offer 250 calories, 24 vitamins and 25 grams of protein. Both he and Roark combined the smoothies with exercise, and both saw significant weight loss.
As an additional healthy offering, Roark offers free fit camps.
“We found that people stay healthy if they work out with other people,” St. Cyr added. “They have accountability.”
Fit camp information can be found on the Core Nutrition website and Facebook page.

MEDIA CRAZED
Fort Walton Beach native Jared Williams has been self-employed since he graduated from the University of West Florida in 2010. His business focuses on building websites and lead-based marketing.
In February, he moved Media Crazed out of his home and into an office.
“I focus mainly on building easy-to-use websites for small business owners,” Williams said.
“Once we get their website up, after that we don’t want the website to be static,” he also said. He also helps business owners with lead marketing by targeting the specific audience and by providing information for the site visitors.
As a small business owner, Williams said he understands what other business owners face. By building easy-access websites, he said his clients can take control of this online medium.
Williams took control of building his business by going door to door seeking his first clients. He recognized that success would not be handed to him and that he’d have to work for it.
“A couple of people decided to give me a chance,” he said.
Although many of his clients own small businesses, Williams can also help larger companies locally and across the nation.
