CRESTVIEW — The latest in an uptick of Okaloosa County school bus crashes happened Monday morning.
Nine Northwood Elementary School students were taken to the emergency room after their bus was rear-ended at 7:40 a.m.
All the students were treated and released from North Okaloosa County Medical Center by mid-afternoon, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The bus driver, Michael L. Wilson, 45, of Crestview, and the other 10 students were not injured, the report states.
The driver of the second vehicle, Crestview resident Chi H. Nguyen, 55, suffered minor injuries and was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center as well, according to the release.
The bus was stopped on Mount Olive Road at JV Woolley Road to pick up a student. The bus’s red flashers were on and its stop sign was displayed when Nguyen’s GMC van rear-ended it, the release states.
Nguyen, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was charged with careless driving and driving under the influence, the release states.
