LETTER: Ignorant by choice

We are living in a divided United States. Hateful, condemning speech and letters to the editor do more harm than good. We are faced with the reality that more of us choose to be ignorant of our Constitution and Bill of Rights than those of us who are knowledgeable and believe they are the foundation that has allowed our nation to become the greatest nation in history.

Another factor that should not be ignored has to do with whether we are a Christian nation. Our leader spoke correctly when he publicly stated that the United States is not a Christian nation. But we were, and history clearly records that this nation was founded upon Judeo-Christian principles and that most of our laws come from those principles. It can be said that some interpretations of our laws were not good, but the overwhelming majority are, and without them our freedom and liberty are in danger.

We need to put our emotions aside and rely on the wisdom of our forefathers. Learn what our Constitution and Bill of Rights say and why they are worded as they are. I urge each of you to remember that God loves us, you and me, whether or not we love Him.
