Nick Masonia went 3 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs, Michael Royal tossed three scoreless innings and the Raiders improved to 6-2 Wednesday with a 6-3 win over Alabama Southern in Niceville.

Masonia’s two RBIs came on a two-out single in the fifth that broke open a 2-2 game. Masonia, who also logged two doubles, would later steal second and third before being driven in by Ian Hok to cap off the pivotal three-run frame. The Raiders would later tack on a run in the sixth, and Alabama Southern would answer with a run in the eighth.

“That was the big inning of the day,” Raiders coach Doug Martin said of the fifth.

Earning the win in relief, Royal struck out three and didn’t allow a hit in three scoreless frames.

Led by a 7-for-8, five stolen-base effort from Jenna Firestein and a pair of gems from pitchers Jessica Colliver and Maude McCourry, the Raiders (8-2) swept Faulkner State Wednesday at home.

Colliver allowed just one run on four hits over six innings in the opener, and her offense pounded out 12 hits in a 10-1 win.

In the nightcap, McCourry allowed just 2 hits over five innings, Lena Land and Hannah Day each delivered a pair of two-RBI singles and Chandra McCampbell earned the save as part of a 4-0 shutout.

Just one of four women with multi-hit efforts in the opener, Firestein went 4 for 5 with two extra-base hits and a stolen base. She followed with a 3-for-3 effort in the nightcap to go along with two runs and four stolen bases.
