The Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday positively identified the body of a woman found Jan. 27 on the shore of Choctawhatchee Bay in Destin.
Dental records indicate it is 60-year-old Shigeko Freeman of Niceville, who was last seen the night of Jan. 5.
Okaloosa County sheriff’s investigators do not suspect foul play. An autopsy conducted Tuesday did not turn up anything suspicious.
Freeman’s car was found in the emergency lane near the top of the Mid-Bay Bridge early Jan. 6. The car keys were inside along with a note that said “Call 9-1-1” with her husband’s name and cell phone number. It was signed “from wife Shigeko.”
The Sheriff’s Office, Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched the bay but could not find Freeman.
The body was discovered washed ashore behind a home on Indian Trail in Destin.
