Not that long ago, the Okaloosa County School District refused to honor teachers’ contractually mandated pay raises. District officials said they just flat-out didn’t have the money, so too bad! I’m certain this injustice played a large part in Superintendent of Schools Alexis Tibbetts’ defeat in her re-election bid.
Our new school superintendent, Mary Beth Jackson, found the money for the pay raises. Checks went out last week to cover the raises retroactively for the entire school year! This begs the question: Were Alexis and her staff being untruthful or just inept?
Regardless, kudos to Mary Beth, and keep up the good work.
